Library - “Music Box”, discussion and signing, with author and composer Ron Kramer

image1.jpeg

Join Ron Kramer, a performing artist and songwriter, as he takes his music and creativity to a new level as an author, and brings his talent and his presentation/signing of the new book “Music Box” to the Morris Public Library on Saturday, October 19, at 1 p.m.

“Music Box” is a classic European fairy tale that was originally conceived from 25 musical pieces that Ron composed over a 2 year period. The protagonist of the story, Elfriede, was inspired from the life of Ron's late mother, who was born and raised in Germany. Her love for music and the arts mirrors the book’s character in many ways.

With the backdrop of Europe and all its splendor, Music Box is magical and enchanting. Elfriede and her story take the reader on a mysterious journey through the Black Forests of Germany and across the soaring countryside of Austria, to unravel the secrets that the music box holds.

Bonus - the author will also speak about the upcoming sequel of "Music Box."

Library - “Understanding Your Aura” with author and medium Sydney Sherman

Morris Public Library, Understanding Your Aura.png

Sydney Sherman, acclaimed Connecticut paranormal author of “You Are Not Alone: Our Loved Ones are here…You’re Just Not Listening”, Medium, Reiki Master and Aura Consultant will offer her new presentation “Understanding Your Aura” at the Morris Public Library, on Thursday, October 24, at 6:30 p.m.

In “Understanding Your Aura”, Ms. Sherman will discuss how important our Aura is in everything we do. The presenter will dispel the existing misinformation about what Auras are. After many years of researching the very scientific and biological nature of Auras, Ms. Sherman uses her own abilities identified as a child to gain a greater understanding of the value and power of our energy and how knowing about your personal Aura can change your life drastically.

Sydney will speak about different colors of Auras and what distinct personality traits/characteristics are seen with these colors. She will also touch upon how one’s Aura color identifies illnesses, stress, emotional disturbances; how other people’s energies affect the Aura; how to protect the Aura and be able to see it yourself.

This presentation is very audience interactive and demonstrations are provided throughout.

The program is sponsored by the Friends of the Morris Public Library.

Library - Mystery Book Club

DSC_0037.jpg

The Mystery Book Club will have their monthly meeting at the Morris Public Library on Wednesday, November 13, at 6:30 p.m. The group will discuss "The Jewel That Was Ours" by Colin Dexter.

A wealthy, elderly American tourist has a heart attack in her room at Oxford's luxurious Randolph Hotel - Inspector Morse tends to consider this an easy case to solve. Missing from the scene is the lady's handbag, which contained the Wolvercote Tongue, a priceless jewel that her late husband had bequeathed to the Ashmolean Museum just across the street. Inspector Morse is certain that the solution is close at hand until conflicting stories, suspicious doings, and a real murder convince him otherwise....

Library - Mystery Book Club

Another-One-Goes-Tonight-final-Cov.jpg

The Mystery Book Club will meet at the Morris Public Library on Wednesday, October 9, at 6:30 p.m. The participants will discuss "Another One Goes Tonight" by Peter Lovesey.

Detective Peter Diamond is assigned to look at a late-night disturbance: a patrol car spins off the road, killing one of the cops and leaving the other in critical condition. Hoping that the officers are not at fault, the detective discovers something even worse: a civilian on a motorized tricycle was involved in the crash and has been lying on the side of the road for hours. Having received CPR, the victim is presently lingering on life support as Diamond wrestles with the fact that he may have saved the life of a serial killer.

To register for the Club and borrow a copy of the book: 860-567-7440 or https://morrispubliclibrary.net/library-calendar-event-registration/

Public Information Meeting - Bridge No. 05417 - Route 109 over Nylbs Brook

Notice of Public Information Meeting

The Department of Transportation (Department) will conduct a Public Information Meeting concerning the proposed replacement of Bridge No. 05417, Route 109 over Nylbs Brook, on Wednesday, October 9, 2019 at the Morris Town Hall, 3 East Street, Morris, Connecticut. An open forum for individual discussion with Department officials will begin at 6:00 p.m. on the evening of the meeting.

The purpose of the project is to address the severe corrosion of the single barrel corrugated structural plate steel pipe-arch. The project was initiated to replace the existing structure in its entirety. The preliminary proposed structure is a 10 ft. x 8 ft. precast concrete, 4-sided box culvert buried 1.5 ft. in natural streambed material. The design will utilize Accelerated Bridge Construction methods which entails all of the bridge components, including wingwalls and footings, prefabricated and installed during a short duration road closure. In order to allow for installation of the new structure, traffic is anticipated to be detoured for a period of no more than 14 consecutive days in the summer of 2022.

Also included in this project will be the replacement of a 24 in. HDPE pipe located approximately 425 feet east of the bridge. At the location of the pipe, the roadway is frequently overtopped by any storm exceeding the 1-year storm event. The existing 24 in. HDPE pipe will be replaced with a 5 ft. x 2 ft. precast concrete box culvert in the same location and alignment.

There are right-of-way impacts associated with the proposed improvements, but they are expected to be limited to temporary construction easements.

Construction is anticipated to begin in fall 2021 based on the availability of funding. The estimated construction cost for this project is approximately $1 million. This project is anticipated to be undertaken with 80 percent Federal Funds and 20 percent State funds.

The Public Information Meeting is being held to afford a full opportunity for public participation and to allow open discussion of any views and comments the community may have concerning this proposed project.

The meeting facility is ADA accessible. Language assistance may be requested by contacting the Department’s Language Assistance Call Line at (860) 594-2109. Requests should be made at least five business days prior to the meeting. Persons with hearing and/or speech disabilities may dial 711 for Telecommunications Relay Service (TRS) and must instruct the operator to contact (860) 594-2243. Language assistance is provided at no cost to the public and efforts will be made to respond to timely requests for assistance.

Plans of the proposed project will be on display for public review. Department personnel will be available during the meeting to discuss this project. More detailed information is available at the Department’s Office of Engineering, 2800 Berlin Turnpike, Newington, Connecticut, Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., excluding holidays. Anyone wishing to discuss the project may be contact Mr. Bao Chuong, Transportation Supervising Engineer, at (860) 594-3316 or by email at bao.chuong@ct.gov.com.
