The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that the current road closure and detour in Morris, to facilitate ongoing construction activities related to the replacement of Bridge Number 01309, which carries Route 109 over the Wigwam Reservoir, will continue through December 15, 2019.

DOT experienced two primary issues that delayed the project:
  • The precast deck units had fabrication issues that delayed their delivery.
  • A design issue regarding the structural steel that resulted in a revision to the final grade elevations throughout the project. The subsequent redesign affected the schedule and the delivery of the precast deck units.

The project consists of repairs to the existing box culvert at East Morris Brook and replacement of Bridge  01309, which carries Route 109 over the Wigwam reservoir. The project also involves roadway reconstruction including excavation and paving in the area of the culvert and bridge as well as new plantings.

DOT Project No. 0086-0091 was awarded to Black & Warner Construction Co., Inc., of Unionville , CT, at a cost of $2,482,641.60 on October 24, 2018.
